The Critical Role of pH in Health and Disease Prevention

pH, or hydrogen ion concentration, is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. A healthy blood pH is around 7.35. Below this, the body becomes acidic; above it, alkaline. The scale is logarithmic, meaning that a change of just 1 pH unit represents a tenfold change in acidity or alkalinity. For example: Our blood…

pH, or hydrogen ion concentration, is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. A healthy blood pH is around 7.35. Below this, the body becomes acidic; above it, alkaline. The scale is logarithmic, meaning that a change of just 1 pH unit represents a tenfold change in acidity or alkalinity. For example:

  • pH 5.2 is 10 times more acidic than pH 6.2
  • pH 5.2 is 100 times more acidic than pH 7.2
  • pH 5.2 is 1,000 times more acidic than pH 8.2

Our blood needs a stable pH to carry oxygen efficiently. God has designed our bodies with a buffer system to self-correct imbalances. However, the typical Western diet—loaded with processed foods, junk foods, sodas, and fast food—puts a constant strain on this system. Over time, these alkaline reserves can deplete.

When the body runs out of buffering capacity, excess acids are stored in tissues. This acid buildup damages cell walls, veins, arteries, and organs. Keiichi Morishita, in Hidden Truth of Cancer, explains that as blood becomes acidic, the body deposits acids into cells. Some cells die, but others adapt and become abnormal, growing uncontrollably—this is how malignant cells, or cancer, develop.

How to Maintain a Healthy pH

1. Focus on alkaline foods
Aim for 80% alkaline and 20% acidic foods in your diet. Examples of alkaline foods include:

  • Most raw vegetables and certain fruits
  • Figs, lima beans
  • Olive oil, honey, molasses
  • Apple cider vinegar, miso, tempeh
  • Raw milk, raw cheese
  • Stevia, green tea, herbs
  • Sprouted grains, wheatgrass, barley grass

Neutral foods like yogurt, kefir, and butter don’t disrupt pH balance. Adding a daily probiotic also supports healthy pH and gut function.

2. Minimize acid-forming foods
Avoid excessive intake of:

  • Sodas, coffee, alcohol, chocolate, tobacco, aspartame
  • Meats, oysters, fish, eggs, chicken
  • Pasteurized milk, processed grains, sugar

3. Supplement wisely
Alkaline minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, cesium, and rubidium can help maintain proper pH balance.

4. Hydrate with alkaline water
Drink at least 2 litres of good-quality water daily, adding fresh lemon if desired. Interestingly, lemon is acidic outside the body but acts alkaline inside.

Your health is ultimately shaped by what you put into your body. Maintaining proper pH is essential for:

  • Preventing cancer and many chronic diseases
  • Supporting weight management
  • Preserving energy and overall wellness

Remember: your input determines your output. A balanced pH is a cornerstone of holistic health.
