Insulin’s Evil Twin, Glucagon

Imsyser sharing this very interesting article; something few people even know about “Insulin’s Evil Twin, Glucagon.

This overlooked hormone might be the real reason you still struggle with out-of-control blood sugar. But most doctors (even alternative doctors) ignore it completely. The No 1 overlooked blood sugar hormone in your body is called glucagon. And this critical hormone may be the real reason you still struggle with your blood sugar.

You see, while insulin lowers blood sugar, glucagon raises it. So you need a healthy balance of both hormones to keep your blood sugar in check. But when you have a blood sugar problem, this delicate balance gets disrupted. Your body starts ignoring insulin. And it starts pumping out massive amounts of glucagon.

Suddenly, glucagon transforms into insulin’s “evil twin.” Instead of working with insulin to maintain healthy blood sugar, it sends your glucose levels through the roof. In fact, insulin’s evil twin can actually double your blood sugar — even if you eat a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise!

Normally, glucagon levels go down when you eat. That helps keep your blood sugar from spiking after a meal. But when you have a blood sugar problem, your glucagon levels don’t go down. Instead, your body keeps dumping stored glucose into your bloodstream — even as your blood sugar sky-rockets from your recent meal.

That triggers what I call a “double-ended” blood sugar spike. You get the normal post-meal jump in your blood sugar. And on top of that, you get a second blood sugar spike from glucagon!

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

To fight this sudden jump in blood sugar, your pancreas pumps out more and more insulin. That forces excess blood sugar into your liver for storage. And it gets your blood sugar under control—for a little while. Unfortunately, glucagon can dump that stored sugar right back into your bloodstream. And that starts the whole vicious cycle all over again.

Your blood sugar skyrockets. Your pancreas makes more insulin to get your levels down. And then glucagon shoots your blood sugar right back up again! Over time, this back-and-forth cycle can cause your insulin-producing beta cells to wear down…burn out…and even die. When that happens, your body can’t make insulin at all.

And here’s the worst part: Even as your insulin levels plummet, your glucagon levels can stay sky-high.

In other words, insulin’s “evil twin” can keep flooding your body with more and more sugar…even as your ability to get rid of that excess sugar disappears.”

Find out if this might be a problem before you jump into all kinds of treatments and of course ‘LIFESTYLE is a CHOICE!!!!
